Our Philosophy

We seek to help individuals find balance between personal responsibility and trust in God. Each counselor at MCS strives to be a real, human person who offers a genuine human relationship, which provides opportunities for redemption. We are told to “warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, and be patient with everyone.” 1 Thessalonians 5:14. In addition to those instructions, we use Christ’s example to guide our work with clients and our interactions with all people. We believe our beauty is revealed when He empowers us to embrace disappointment and fear, and choose love over self-protection. We can find hope in a trustworthy God who loves, forgives, accepts, and gives strength to follow Him.

Life altering change results from change of behavior, but more importantly, change of heart. As much as we rely on the belief that changing thoughts produces change in feelings, we rely more on the belief that restoration to God produces restoration in life. The amount of change you get out of counseling directly depends on your willingness to humble yourself and turn away from your particular ways of self-protection, independence, and hiding. Only then will you be able to employ effective strategies to reestablish health and wellness in your life. Our counselors do not expect any level of spiritual belief or relationship in order to walk along side clients. Biblical principles will be discussed to the extent clients feel comfortable. Our care, however, will be driven by the heartfelt belief in the principles described here.
