How do I know if my insurance will pay for counseling?

Many insurance companies send you a provider handbook where the names of covered providers are listed. Since these books change constantly, the best way to find out if your insurance will pay for a particular counselor, is to look on the company's website or call your insurance company and ask what your coverage is for that counselor. You will need to have the counselor's name and credentials when you call. (Ex. Jennifer Morgan LPC)

How do I know if counseling will be helpful to me?

There are several indicators that may predict how helpful counseling will be for you. Individuals who desire change, are willing to put forth the necessary effort to change, are open to feedback, and are committed to the process of counseling, are usually significantly helped by counseling.

What does Confidentiality mean?

State laws and professional ethics prohibit counselors from disclosing any information a client shares with them (unless permission is given by the client). This is true at all times except for cases in which a client talks about possibly harming him/herself or someone else.
For clients under the age of 18, parental guardians have the right to know important information discussed in session. Each counselor must decide what is "important" enough to share with parents.
